This song has been released in conjunction with a new unique documentary about the famine which can be seen here -

Travel with me back in time
To Europe, 1845
A crop had failed the potato blight
When it reached Erins isle

Ruled by a cruel Empire of greed
With peasants not let grow the foods they need
Millions died and a million fled
The helpless pay the heaviest price
From the great genocide

Barrels of food shipped to England
Boats full of poor for the promised land
The wealthy would dine while the common man died
A tale too familiar as old as time

The empire would outlaw their native language
A rich layer of culture and people vanished
Millions died and a million fled
With nothing left but to stand for whats right
The rebellion was justified

And if you love your children
You’ll teach them the truth
Of the great starvation
Coz the famines a lie
It was genocide

But the trauma not gone
Because we know not what really went on
It manifests in other ways
Coz we’re carrying that pain

The drink and the drugs we’re addicted to
The catholic church and the child abuse
Millions died and a million more fled
It's time to heal ourselves with the light
And our grief won’t be denied

And the first nations people are forever in our hearts
With a bond that transcends time
With a grand gesture of kindness and solidarity
We'll mourn the Great Genocide

On the trail of tears our people will cry
